Several years ago a young man moved to Roatan from Great Britain and wanted to make a difference. He built a factory up in the local colonia where he houses several homeless families. Together, they go to our overflowing dump and pull out old oil drums, RECO electric wire, old ship’s hulls, railroad nails and any other type of metal they can salvage. From this, he has taught these families how to make beautiful recycled pieces of art.
Wall hangings, mirrors, pedestal fish, animals, butterflies, crosses, angels, Christmas ornaments and magnets are some of the unique pieces that have been created. The Rusty Fish hang tag has the website showing this amazing project and first successful island recycling.
